It’s not uncommon to see so many wedding portals come up with “Top Candid Wedding Photographer Delhi” or “best wedding photographer delhi” listicles every few months. The trend of wedding websites creating various lists and rankings of Wedding Photographers in Gurgaon or Delhi or Udaipur, or any other city, is rampant today. As wedding photographers, we believe that this trend is alarming because of various reasons that we will talk about in this post.

#1 they set incorrect expectations

It’s pretty common for brides to search for wedding photographers online before their wedding. Let’s say a bride searches for a Wedding Photographers in Gurgaon on the internet, we’re pretty sure that the first few results will be these lists. And chances are, you’ll trust the results and assume that the photographer you choose from the list will deliver great results. While we hope that that does happen, there’s a chance it might not. The lists often have photographers who have just started out and have fairly less experience in the industry.

#2 Wrong benchmark is set

The kind of photography that these portals claim as “best” or “top” is eventually seen as the benchmark for what is good wedding photography. Which we cannot allow as wedding photographers. We want people to think out of the box, not set a template for art.

#3 No authenticity

This trend can lead to prospective brides and grooms losing trust in online content and they may start looking for options elsewhere. If these paid or sponsored lists continue, people might lose faith in even genuine and original content.

So we need to educate our clients that these “candid wedding photographer in Jaipur” and other listicles should be reviewed carefully before making any decision. As an industry of artists, we should band together to end this dangerous trend.
